Today, Howden Re’s Brazil team is pleased to release this quarter’s issue of the Brazil and Global Climate Impacts report: Climate extremes and risk recalibration from April to June 2025. This report, developed in collaboration with MeteoIA , provides a comprehensive look at Brazil’s intensifying climate variability in Q2 2025 and its implications for infrastructure, agriculture, and the insurance sector. ? This is the latest instalment in Howden Re Brazil’s ongoing series analysing evolving climate extremes and their influence on the rapidly expanding Brazilian insurance market. From record rainfall and flooding to frost and cold damage, Brazil’s second quarter showcased overlapping climate shocks. These compound risks are accelerating the urgency for climate-responsive insurance mechanisms. In response, Brazil’s reinsurance sector is transitioning from a reactive model to one grounded in anticipatory solutions. ? Antonio Jorge Rodrigues, Head of Howden Re Brazil, commented: "As Brazil prepares to host COP30, the convergence of environmental, social, and economic risks is undeniable. Reinsurance must go beyond indemnification. We must develop tools that anticipate risk, spread exposure more equitably, and ultimately support resilience. At Howden Re, we are ready to lead this change.” ? Key highlights: - April to June 2025: From historic rainfall to record frost and crop loss - Forecast: Drier, hotter winter ahead with elevated agricultural stress - Innovation in focus: Parametric insurance pilots and region-specific risk mapping ?
